2020 is hindsight

They say your vision is only 20:20 (perfect) when you look back but this year has been across the board as far from perfect as possible. However, while this year is one that no one wants to remember it is one we will never forget.........

So if it were not depressing enough to have lived through it and that you will constantly be reminded of it, here I am, looking back at it already. Anyway, here are a selection of my pictures from 2020, they may not be my best and maybe not even my favourite pictures. They have been selected because I think they tell story of the year through my eyes. From photographing David Hockney in a crowded gallery at the end of February with no idea what was to come, through lockdowns, feed the front line, clap for carers, Black Lives Matter, re-openings, restrictions, re-closings to another iconic artist, this time in an empty gallery with just me, wondering if her show would even be allowed to open. A very similar assignment in very different world.

It has been an interesting year with some really interesting assignments but not one I think any of us would care to repeat. So if you would allow me to maul the apocryphal Chinese curse, May we live in (less) interesting times.

With thanks to PA Media Assignments, Royal Academy of Arts, National Portrait Gallery and all my other clients for their support through this year.
